Exco Technologies Limited
A Toronto-area maker of die-cast and extrusion tooling and automotive interior components, trading at a low cash-flow multiple with a ~5% dividend.
The business
Exco Technologies designs, develops and manufactures dies, moulds, components, assemblies and consumable equipment for the die-cast, extrusion and automotive industries. Founded in 1952 and employing about 4,400 people, it reports two segments: Casting and Extrusion (tooling used by aluminum die-casters and extruders) and Automotive Solutions (interior trim and accessory products such as cargo-management and protective products sold to automakers and the aftermarket).
The business sits deep in the industrial supply chain. Casting and Extrusion sales follow capital spending by die-casters and extruders, including the large moulds used in vehicle and powertrain production, while Automotive Solutions follows North American and European light-vehicle builds and program launches. In the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Automotive Solutions contributed $88.3M of sales and Casting and Extrusion $77.1M, per the company's results release.
In 2026 the company also launched Exco Energy, an initiative to apply its Large Mould Group's precision-machining, engineering and quality capabilities to Canadian nuclear energy and to pursue additive-manufacturing work in other markets. Management describes nearly all of its North American products as USMCA-compliant and points to a substantial U.S. manufacturing footprint.
The moat
Long-standing engineering know-how in precision tooling for die-casting and extrusion, a niche where customers value reliability and turnaround over price alone.
Embedded supplier relationships on multi-year automotive programs, with USMCA-compliant production and a U.S. manufacturing footprint that management says positions it well relative to non-compliant imports.
A diversified mix of tooling, consumables and automotive accessories that spreads exposure across customers and end-markets, though all remain tied to the industrial and auto cycle.

Free cash flow yield & sustainable growth
Free cash flow yield : ≈10.5%FCF TTM $32.82M / market cap $311.68M (StockAnalysis, Oct 13, 2026)
Free cash flow has been volatile: negative $28.2M in fiscal 2022, then $20.5M in fiscal 2023, $50.3M in fiscal 2024, $30.5M in fiscal 2025 and $32.8M on a trailing basis to June 2026. Operating cash flow over the trailing twelve months was $56.2M against $23.4M of capital spending.
The swing factor is capital spending, which fell from $51.7M in fiscal 2022 to $35.4M in fiscal 2025, and management now expects about $20.0M for fiscal 2026. Working capital also moves quarterly cash flow sharply: Q3 2026 free cash flow was $9.7M versus $20.1M a year earlier. Revenue itself has been roughly flat at around $615-640M since fiscal 2023, so further cash-flow gains depend on margin recovery, backlog conversion and restrained capex rather than top-line growth.
Valuation & what to watch
At $8.32 (October 13, 2026), Exco trades at about 13.0x trailing earnings of $0.64 per share and 8.5x forward earnings, per StockAnalysis. Enterprise value is about $382M, reflecting roughly $70.6M of net debt (StockAnalysis basis; the company's own release cites net debt of $63.9M at June 30, 2026).
On cash flow the stock looks cheaper still: trailing free cash flow of $32.8M against a market cap of about $312M is a free-cash-flow yield of roughly 10.5% (price-to-FCF of 9.5). Margins are thin for a tooling business, with a 20.2% gross margin, a 6.6% operating margin and return on equity of about 6.1%, which helps explain why the market assigns a modest multiple.
Dividend
Pays $0.105 per share quarterly ($0.42 annualized) for a yield of about 5.05% at $8.32; the payout ratio is about 64.5% of earnings, and the quarterly rate has been unchanged since an increase from $0.100 to $0.105 in March 2022. Trailing dividends paid of $15.9M were covered by $32.8M of free cash flow.
Risks & the bear case
- Heavy exposure to the automotive cycle and to customer capital spending in die-casting and extrusion; a downturn in vehicle builds or tooling orders would hit both segments.
- Trade policy and tariffs: management itself flags uncertainty from trade policy, tariffs and geopolitics, and a change to USMCA terms could alter its competitive position.
- Thin margins (6.6% operating margin) leave little cushion against labour, energy, supply-chain or product-mix pressure, which already reduced Automotive Solutions profit in Q3 2026.
- European automotive conditions were described as challenging, weighing on part of the Automotive Solutions business.
- Lumpy working capital and capex make free cash flow uneven from year to year, as fiscal 2022's negative free cash flow showed.
- Small-cap liquidity: at about $312M market cap, the shares can be thinly traded and volatile.

July 29, 2026: Announced the launch of Exco Energy to target Canadian nuclear-energy and additive-manufacturing opportunities, after hosting the Government of Canada's Nuclear Energy Strategy announcement on June 22, 2026.
July 29, 2026: Lowered its fiscal 2026 capital-expenditure expectation to about $20.0M (from $36.0M spent in fiscal 2025) and declared a $0.105 quarterly dividend paid September 29, 2026.
February 18, 2026: Announced a normal course issuer bid (share buyback); trailing buybacks totalled $5.5M through June 2026.
Verdict
Exco offers a high free-cash-flow yield (about 10.5%), a roughly 5% dividend and moderate leverage, backed by a backlog management describes as above historical levels and a lower capex budget. Against that, revenue has been flat for three years, margins are thin, and results remain hostage to the auto cycle and North American trade policy. It suits patient value and income investors comfortable with small-cap cyclical industrials; the low multiple reflects real cyclicality rather than an obvious mispricing.
