WestJet Flight Attendants Vote 99.4% in Favour of Strike Mandate
CUPE Local 8125 says 97.3% of roughly 4,400 WestJet cabin crew turned out to back strike action, setting up a possible walkout as early as the August long weekend.
WestJet flight attendants have voted 99.4% in favour of a strike mandate, the union representing roughly 4,400 cabin crew said. CUPE Local 8125 reported 97.3% turnout in the vote.
A legal strike or lockout could begin as early as Aug. 2, 2026, coinciding with the August long weekend, once a 21-day cooling-off period runs out.
What's at stake
- Wages - Unpaid ground work, including boarding, security screening and delays - An 'outdated' flight-credit pay system, which the union says leaves cabin crew unpaid for the equivalent of about 35 hours per month for the average flight attendant
