Utilities earn regulated returns on a growing rate base plus, increasingly, contracted renewable power. They're classic income vehicles — we weigh rate-base and cash-flow growth, the funds-from-operations (or DCF) yield, dividend coverage and the heavy debt and capital spending the model requires.
