WCS-WTI Discount Narrows to $14.40 a Barrel as Crude Prices Rise

Alberta's heavy-crude benchmark closed the gap with U.S. light crude on July 8 as global oil prices moved higher.

Western Canadian Select for August delivery at Hardisty, Alberta settled at $14.40 a barrel below West Texas Intermediate on July 8, 2026, a narrower discount that came as global crude benchmark prices settled higher that session.

WCS remains the key reference price for many Alberta heavy-oil producers, and shifts in the spread between it and WTI are closely watched as a gauge of how the province's crude is pricing relative to the broader North American market.
