IAMGOLD

A turnaround producer generating outsized free cash flow as its new Côté mine ramps — priced cheaply for Burkina Faso risk and a chequered history.

L'entreprise

IAMGOLD is a Toronto-based intermediate producer whose flagship is Côté Gold in Ontario (a JV with Sumitomo, IAMGOLD ~70%), a large long-life mine that began production in 2024 and is ramping toward nameplate.

It also operates Essakane in Burkina Faso and Westwood in Quebec.

The narrative is a balance-sheet-and-cash-flow turnaround built on Côté transforming the cost profile.

Les avantages concurrentiels

Côté is a genuinely large, long-life Canadian asset that materially lowers group costs and drives cash generation — the closest thing to a structural advantage IAMGOLD has.

Against that, Essakane sits in high-risk Burkina Faso and the company carries a history of weaker balance-sheet discipline, so the moat is asset-specific, not franchise-wide.

Rendement du flux de trésorerie disponible et croissance durable

Rendement du flux de trésorerie disponible : ≈15.6% (est.)TTM free cash flow ~US$1.28B (through Mar 31, 2026) ÷ market cap ~US$8.17B ≈ 15.6%; elevated by the Côté ramp and high gold prices, and discounted by the market for Burkina Faso risk.

Free cash flow inflected sharply positive as Côté ramped, reaching roughly US$1.28B on a trailing basis, with the cash used to repair the balance sheet.

Durability hinges on Côté sustaining rates and on the gold price; because there is no dividend, all of that cash flows to deleveraging and growth rather than to shareholders directly.

Valorisation et points à surveiller

At about US$14.80 a share the market cap is roughly US$8.2B at a P/E near 9 — the cheapest in this cohort.

Trailing free cash flow implies a very high FCF yield in the mid-teens, reflecting the Côté ramp and strong gold prices; the market applies a steep discount for Burkina Faso exposure, the ramp's newness and the company's track record, so 'cheap' here is inseparable from 'risky'.

Dividende

None — IAMGOLD does not currently pay a dividend; free cash flow is directed to the balance sheet and growth.

Risques et scénario baissier

  • Burkina Faso — a military junta, security deterioration and elevated tax/nationalization risk overhang Essakane.
  • Côté ramp and reserve execution; a history of leverage; the Sumitomo JV structure; no dividend; and full gold-price sensitivity. The low multiple is the market pricing these risks, not a free lunch.

Faits récents

Côté continued ramping toward nameplate through early 2026, driving the cash-flow surge.

Balance-sheet repair using Côté cash flow, against a persistently difficult Essakane geopolitical backdrop.

Verdict

IAMGOLD is the deep-value, high-risk name in the group: an eye-catching mid-teens trailing FCF yield and the cheapest multiple, powered by a genuinely transformational Côté ramp. But the discount is there for reasons — Burkina Faso exposure, a young ramp still proving its run-rate, no dividend, and a history that warrants scepticism. For risk-tolerant readers it is the most statistically 'cheap'; for conservative ones the jurisdictional and execution overhang is exactly why. Information, not investment advice.
